The Estate Chardonnay is an exciting new addition to our portfolio. Each year, our winemaker TJ Evans determines the ideal blend of Chardonnay grapes from our six Estate vineyards to highlight the vivid complexity of Carneros. The 2022 vintage vintage marries two great Chardonnay sites; Entre Amis Vineyard and Estate Vineyard surrounding the Château, to create this beautiful example of Carneros Chardonnay. The Calera clone grapes of Entre Amis Vineyard lend acidity, while the Mt. Eden clone grapes from the Estate Vineyard provide unctuous richness, resulting in a complex and lively wine.

Tasting Notes

Lively aromas of lemon peel, beeswax, and lemon grass lead to finely detailed notes of pear, lychee, and yuzu, supported by a touch of seamlessly integrated oak, finishing long on a lifting acidity.

Vineyard Notes

An early winter downpour and spring rains filled our reservoirs after two consecutive drought years. The growing season was consistent and mild with the moderating influence of the Carneros marine layer allowing the grapes to mature slowly. Ten days of heat in early September were mitigated by high humidity and irrigation, but grape maturation was accelerated, and our fast-paced harvest was completed by September 15th. An eventful season yielded a remarkable vintage with voluptuous wines balanced with vibrant acidity.

Production Notes

Fermentation was conducted in barrel, mostly neutral oak with just a touch of new, steam bent, French Oak to support but not overwhelm the fruit. The wine rested on lees for 15 months with occasional stirring.
